I need to woke-up a little bit earlier to go to this waterfall. Tukad Cepung is the name of the waterfall, it is located in Bangli, about an hour's journey from Kuta. This is my first time solo traveling with my motorbike after the cancer operation and the chemotherapy.
Aku harus bangun pagi untuk ke air terjun yang satu ini. Tukad Cepung adalah namanya, terletak di kabupaten Bangli berjarak satu jam dari Kuta, Bali. Ini pertama kalinya aku pergi jauh dengan motor setelah operasi pengangkatan kanker dan kemoterapi, dan sendirian saja.
Besides getting bored of not doing anything during the pandemic and regaining my health after chemo, my other reason to go to this waterfall is because the view of the sunlight around this waterfall was just beautiful. It's creating magnificent views and dramatic vibes around the place.
Jangan ditanya apa yang membuatku benar-benar ingin pergi ke tempat ini. Selain rasa bosan karena tidak bisa melakukan kegiatan dengan bebas, ini juga karena aku begitu terbius dengan indahnya permainan cahaya matahari di lokasi ini, indah sekali. Dan alasan itulah yang membuat aku benar-benar ingin melihat secara langsung tempat ini.
After packing my devices and what I will need during the ride, I was in a hurry to get ready to go. According to several people, the best time to arrive is about 8 – 10 am. I left Kuta for Bangli at 7:00 am. Empty road and morning breeze makes me feel refreshed and enjoy the ride.
Setelah memasukan semua kebutuhan di perjalanan dan untuk dokumentasi nanti, aku segera bergegas mandi agar tidak terlambat. Menurut beberapa orang yang pernah ke tempat itu, mereka menganjurkan untuk tiba sekitar jam 8 – 10 pagi. 7:00 aku meninggalkan daerah Kuta menuju Bangli. Udara pagi dan jalanan yang tidak terlalu ramai membuatku cukup santai menikmati perjalanan sambil sesekali memperhatikan G-Maps.
Entering Bangli I could feel and see the vibes were totally different, Balinese villages always offered beautiful panoramas. Rice field and Mt. Agung as the background is a perfect combination view. I can see that sometimes thin smoke coming out from the summit, like a statement to everyone, "Hey there I'm still active".
Memasuki daerah Bangli suasana mulai terasa berbeda, suasana pedesaan Bali memang selalu menarik untuk dinikmati. Sawah dan ladang yang aku lewati menyajikan panorama yang indah. Di bagian timur kejauhan terlihat gunung Agung berdidri kokoh dengan gagahnya, sesekali terlihat menyemburkan asap tipis seperti memberikan arti bahwa aku tetap aktif. Apapun itu, pemandangan berlatarkan Agung selalu memikat mata yang melihat.
I arrived at about 8:30 am at Tukad Cepung waterfall, it's a bit late according to my prediction, I just couldn't control myself to not stop and take a few photos at several spots on my way to the waterfall. From the parking lot we need to walk about 15 minutes to arrive at the waterfall. I said 15 minutes if you walk directly, if you stop to photograph some views it may take longer. Walking down to the valley, at the end of the stairs you will see the direction to the waterfall, and another waterfall which it's in the same location, I don't know the name of that one, so please don't ask me :D.
Sesekali berhenti untuk memotret kegiatan petani dan tentu saja panorama yang indah membuatku tiba sekitar pukul 8:30 pagi. Setelah membayar tiket masuk, aku langsung bergegas menuju ke air terjun. Perjalanan dari tempat parkir menuju air terjun sekitar 15 menit jika tidak berhenti untuk memotret. Setibanya dibawah, (YA! Kita akan berjalan menuju lembah yang tidak terlalu terjal untuk melihat air terjun ini), kamu akan melihat dua arah ke air terjun Cepung atau yang satunya lagi, tolong jangan ditanya nama air terjun tersebut, tapi mereka ada didalam satu lokasi.
I walked directly to the main waterfall (tukad Cepung) while looking for the famous spot where the sunlight plays beautiful scenery, I found it quite confusing since I walked in the valley and in between big stones also the sky gets darker and cloudy. I keep moving and walk to the direction of the waterfall, and realize that I'm alone in the area, all of sudden scary feelings attacking me, I don't often feel like that, but it suddenly feels uncomfortable. Decline the feeling, I kept walking to the waterfall the clouds are moving and the sky's brighter, slow but sure the sunlight going into the valley, and creating beautiful view at the waterfall, I was amazed by it but must preparing my camera and other devices to capture the moment as much as possible from different angle before it's gone again.
Aku memilih langsung ke air terjun yang inti (Tukad Cepung). Sambil mencari dimana lokasi untuk memotret cahaya itu, tiba-tiba langit berubah gelap dan berawan, aku tak melihat cahaya. Menyadari bahwa seorang diri di tempat ini tiba-tiba ada rasa merinding, tapi aku gak balik yah, aku terus berjalan menuju ke air terjun. Masih dengan rasa penasaran yang sama aku sedikit bingung menemukan lokasi yang sama seperti di foto-foto orang lain, karena bebatuan yang besar terlihat sama saja dimataku. Aku terus berjalan melewati bebatuan itu dan langsung menuju lokasi air terjun. Beruntung tak lama kemudian, awan mulai beranjak pergi, cahaya matahari mulai masuk melalui sela-sela dedaunan dan celah bebatuan, seketika terpukau dengan apa yang ada di depan mata ditambah dengan suasana tenang membuat tukad cepung lebih terasa sempurna.
Satisfied with the results of the photos and videos around the waterfall, I decided to go back. While walking, in between the big stones I looked back and saw the sunlight reach the valley in between the leaves above those stones, this is exactly the spot that I've been looking at since I arrived. It's even more beautiful than the photographs. I can't miss the chance, so I take out the gears -again, and take more photos and videos.
Puas dengan foto-foto dan video di air terjun, aku kembali memasukan semua perlengkapan dan hendak kambali. Saat melewati bebatuan besar, aku melihat cahaya matahari yang masuk disela-sela dedaunan begitu indah, senang sekali aku bisa melihatnya sebelum pulang. Dengan segera aku mengeluarkan kembali peralatan "perang" untuk mendokumentasikan pemandangan itu. Ini adalah spot yang pertama aku cari, tetapi tidak terlihat apapun karena langit yg gelap saat baru tiba di tukad Cepung.
This place is unbelievable. I can understand why most of the tourists want to come to this place. After I'm happy with the photos and videos, I was a bit rush, to the other waterfall. Just want to take the photos there and go back home. Before I left the waterfall I could see several groups arriving. Somehow, I'm pretty happy that I was alone when I arrived.
Tempat ini benar-benar membius siapa saja yang datang, tidaklah heran sebelum pandemic tempat ini begitu ramai dan menjadi DTW bagi turis domestic maupun mancanegara, dan siapapun yang menyukai fotografi. Setelah mendapatkan foto yang aku inginkan, aku segera kembali. Sebelum pulang aku masih sempat memotret air terjun lain yang berada di lokasi ini juga. Puas dengan hasil foto, aku kemudian memilih kembali, karena terlihat ada beberapa grup pengunjung yang mulai berdatangan, sesaat aku cukup senang karena saat tiba dilokasi, aku masih sendirian dan bisa menikmati airterjunnya, sendirian.
I then decided to have a bit of 'rest' in a small restaurant on my way back to enjoy a fresh coconut. While enjoying the coconut, more visitors arrived and walked to the waterfall. I smile a bit, wondering if the local will have some income today. Yes, the pandemic hit the tourism sector in Bali very badly. I mean, I know it's all over the world, but seeing the struggles in Bali since the pandemic started, I was amazed that everything was changed. Thousands of people are losing their jobs, thousands more need to go back to their villages and cities. Shops, restaurants, cafes, everything are closed, even now I can see the beggars and homeless in several corners of the city, that is something that I have never seen since I moved to Bali. And now that I am able to see more visitors arrive, somehow I feel happy, but the main thing that makes me happy is I can see them following the health protocols – it is something more important.
Sebelum tiba di tempat parkir aku memilih mampir di salah satu café disana, sekedar istirahat. Kelapa muda segar, sangat cocok setelah 'berolahraga' menaiki anak tangga! Sambil menikmati kelapa muda, pengunjung mulai berdatangan menuju ke air terjun, semoga mereka bisa membagi waktu untuk mendokumentasikan air terjun karena beberapa group sudah berada dilokasi terlebih dahulu.
To me, tukad Cepung waterfall is special, it's not like other waterfalls. It's not the biggest or the tallest waterfall, but the combination of the waterfall, valley and sun rays creating the most magical scenery ever! As I mentioned before, the best time to visit is around 8 – 10 am. And if you want to rest and enjoy the view after the walk, you can go to D'Kubu restaurant, they have plenty of food to choose from the menu, it's delicious and clean also with a very reasonable price.
Air terjun tukad Cepung sangatlah istimewa, berbeda dari air terjun yang lain. Dan kalian harus tiba di waktu yang tepat, agar mendapat pemandangan yang menakjubkan. Kalau kalian ingin kesini, jam 8-10 pagi adalah waktu yang tepat. Jikalau ingin beristirahat setelah melihat air terjun, kalian bisa mampir di D'Kubu Restaurant, tempat ini memiliki menu yang cukup lengkap, makanan yang lezat, bersih dan harga sangat terjangkau. Tiket masuk ke lokasi air terjun tukad Cepung adalah Rp. 15.000/orang.
If you are in Bali or you have a plan to come to Bali, you must put this waterfall on your list too. But now, I wish everyone safe and healthy and one day soon we all can travel again without worrying about the virus. And DON'T FORGET wherever you go please keep the environment clean.
